First Lady Does Vintage Again
Michelle Obama on the cover of Essence October 2011 |
I don't know how I let this slip pass me but the October cover of Essence magazine featured our First Lady wearing a vintage dress. The designer is unknown which is a little disappointing but in the history of vintage clothing, there are a number of amazing pieces that are unsigned. Usually created by classic dressmakers from store bought patterns or copies of European houses, these pieces still had amazing craftsmanship, unseen today but close to couturiers. This is not the first time Mrs. Obama wore vintage, at the 2010 Christmas celebration she wore a vintage Norman Norell dress that received a cavalcade of attention. The First Lady is noted for making very non contemporary fashion choices and her taste for vintage only makes her seem more stylish.

VS Stylin'
I love receiving pictures from all my Vintage Shaun clients. Annika, whose personal style I have admired for quite some time paired her denim shorts and opaque tights with this decadent Vintage Shaun sequin dinner jacket circa 1980s. It was a special occasion and Annika celebrated it with a dynamic piece. For those afraid of sequins or think it's too dressy, take a clue from Annika and play it down with a more informal fabric like denim. The results are a dressy jeans or dressed down glitter, which ever one fits your fancy. Check Annika's site here and follow her on twitter for more of her great style.
